(089) 6226145, 6226146, 6226001, 6226002 e-mail: info@swietajno.ug.gov.pl www.swietajno.ug.gov.pl Location, geographic landscape values The commune ¦wiêtajno is located in a northern part of Warmian-Mazurian Voivodship in the municipal administration of Szczytno. It borders on districts of: Szczytno, D¼wierzuty, Piecki, Rozogi, Ruciane Nida. The northern part of the commune is situated within Pojezierze Mr±gowskie reach, the southern - belongs to Równina Mazurska. The overall surface of the commune reaches 280 square kilometers (28 000 ha).
Natural environment and tourism Considering the location among forests and lakes, the commune is very attractive for tourists. The beauty and cleanliness of waters, outstretched among vast standing timbers, moorlands, coppices, with richness of woodland fleece, standpoints of immune flora and great many wild games, make the commune an unusual leisure and recreational region. Rich woodland areas, which are the remains of impermeable primeval and thick forests, are charming with their seriousness and peacefulness, and they are a mainstay of various plants and animals. Most lakes teem with different species of fish. There are many hunting clubs in this area and the woodland and fishing economy flourishes here (Forestry Inspectorate Spychowo, Stanica PZW "Racibór", Spó³ka z o.o. "Piasutno"). The commune ¦wiêtajno has good facilities to cultivate the qualified tourism, walking, waterway, cycling and riding horses. A great number of tourist routes were marked out in this region and they are excellent for walking and riding. They are marked out mostly in the forests in order to provide all the tourists with the contact with nature and to make them gain basic naturalistic and historical information. The Forestry Spychowo contributed in marking and bringing these routes into cultivation. Great many overlocal tourist routes cross the area of the commune. The most important is Krutynia Route (canoeing) - one of the most popular and the most varied water routes in the country. There are about 9 kilometers of this route in the area of the commune. In the area of the commune there are a few hundred of recreational parcels, which are mostly built-up with holiday cottages. The biggest holiday cottages settlement is situated in the surroundings of villages: Spychowo, Kierwik, Koczek, Po³om, Piasutno, Powa³czyn, Jerutki, Racibór.
Monuments The most precious monuments of commune ¦wiêtajno are: church in Jerutki (1715), church in Spychowo (1903), church in ¦wiêtajno (1908), residential houses in Piasutno, Powa³czyn and Jerutki.
Economy and public security In commune ¦wiêtajno there are beneficial transport facilities which assure good motoring and rail connections with Olsztyn, Warsaw and the region of Wielkie Jeziora Mazurskie (Great Mazurian Lakes). Water supply system covers 80% of the area. There are three sewage works in the commune.
A very important matter for the economic development is the fact that a special attention is paid to public security. Commune ¦wiêtajno won the first prize in the second edition of the contest: "A Safe Commune", organized by the Home Office and Civil Service in 2003 (there were 80 participants). Among the activities that influenced the result of the contest one can find: the cooperation of local government, local community, schools and the police (among others: the creation of a civilian patrol and the realization of preventive programmes) and a chain of investments that made the level of safety and public order increase. This success proved that the traders, who do business, the dwellers of the commune as well as the tourists coming to rest, can feel safe here. |
